Polychrome lacquer on fabric; with a flat lip and flat, rectangular foot; the octagonal form painted on each main side with an identical design of a central circular panel of three leaves on a branch surrounded by four oval panels, each with a similar pheasant in it, all contained within a broader circle, the narrow sides and foot engraved with alternating formalized floral diapers and leiwen (‘thunder pattern’) designs, the cinnabar-red ground splashed with gold leaf
