ARTEFACTS
New seasonal collections
Chinese snuff bottles represent an enormous range of Qing-dynasty arts. They may be small, but in China monumentality in art was seen differently than in the West. As a general rule, the aesthetically influential minority preferred their arts on a more intimate scale and the snuff bottle fitted the bill perfectly, resulting in some of the finest of Qing Imperial and scholarly arts. In so many cases, snuff bottles provide not only the finest of Qing production, but a great deal of the documentary evidence available as well.
Each season Pavilion will be publishing a new collection of snuff bottles here in our online gallery space. New seasons will be selected and curated by us, in collaboration with Hugh Moss, at key points throughout the lunar calendar.
